CHE BELLA!
One of the best parts of designing Italian-made shoes is that I have to return to Milan periodically to visit our factories. What a burden! I am joking, of course—Italy remains one of my most beloved destinations in the world, and over the years I’ve come to feel like this iconic Northern Italian city is a home away from home. It never ceases to surprise me, and I always return energized and full of sartorial inspiration.
I hope you enjoy this glimpse into my Milanese meanderings!

What I’m doing: Exploring Milan

Whenever I’m in Milan, I like to create little rituals for myself that anchor me and make me feel at home. I always stop by my favorite gelato spot when visiting (yes, even in the wintertime!). My number one choice is Terra Gelato, though their hours are a little hit and miss, and my next favorite is CioccolatiItaliani, which is centrally located near the Duomo and also right on my usual shopping path.
What I’m eating: Chiacciere for Carnevale

February is Mardi Gras time—or Carnevale, as it’s known in Italy—and true to form, the Italians always celebrate with special foods that mark the occasion. (The period before Lent is marked by overeating, in preparation for the more restrictive period that arrives after Ash Wednesday!) I enjoy seeing the chiacchiere in the windows of almost every bakery—these crisp little sugar-dusted strips of fried dough are surprisingly delicate, and it's especially heartwarming to see how they are wrapped up like a gift.
Fun fact: The word “chiacchiere” loosely translates to “small talk” or “chatter.” In Italy, people often say, “C’i incontriamo per due chiacchiere?” Or “Shall we meet for a few laughs?”
What I’m seeing: Leonardo da Vinci’s Last Supper

I finally had the chance to snag a coveted reservation and view Leonardo da Vinci's The Last Supper. In the quick 15 minutes we had to view the painting, I was truly mesmerized and moved. I was also fascinated to learn that da Vinci created the mural using an experimental painting technique, which meant that the pigments began to flake off within a few years. It remains incredibly fragile even after meticulous restoration efforts, which is why visitors are only allowed 15 minutes to view it in small groups. Although some of its luminous colour has been lost, you can still marvel at his deep understanding of emotions, posture, and gestures.
What I’m drinking: Aperitivi on the rooftop of Rinascente department store
Of course, Milan is known for aperitivo culture, so it wouldn't be a trip without a stop at some of my spots where they do it right. One of my favorites is the rooftop bar in La Rinascente department store. It has the best view of the Duomo – it just feels otherworldly.
What I’m wearing: The Felicia in Burgundy

I always walk so much more when I’m in Europe, so I’m really putting my flats to the test! They’ve been beautifully comfortable—I love how The Felicia in Burgundy becomes an effortlessly neutral hue no matter what I pair them with, and the textured patent leather lends it a sophisticated air. (Plus there are brand-new colors coming for Felicia this Spring, which I’m extra-excited about too!) For nighttime, I slip into The Carla in Silver. The flash of metallic instantly dresses up any outfit, but they are so comfortable I can take a post-dinner stroll without a thought.
